In the last chapter, I relayed some personal experiences showing different facets of the greater-than-material universe we live in. Another recent experience got me reflecting on the exact nature of a universe that could produce all the events described in all these stories. So first I'll share that experience — a magical synchronicity that was engineered by a dreamlike, psycho-physical universe with a wicked sense of humor! Then I'll spend the rest of this chapter exploring how such an event could occur (introducing some useful concepts), before proceeding with the rest of my story.

It was a sweltering summer day in Virginia, in June, 2024. Our A/C system had broken down, and it would be days before a repairman would arrive. I thought, in the interim, a box fan placed in my upstairs window could greatly help to cool the upstairs floor.

So I headed on over to the nearest supercenter store to buy a fan.

When I reached the fan aisle, there was a huge stack of white box fans featured in the center of the aisle as being on sale — obviously in the current heat wave, fans were a hot item (so to speak)! I read the details on the box containing the fan, and it seemed perfect for my needs.

Just as I was about to take one of these boxes to the checkout counter, I noticed another similar stack of boxes further down the aisle. So I went to check it out. It too was a stack of boxed fans, the same size as the first stack, and made by the same company. These fans were black, and the description of the features was a little different. So I carried one of the boxes from the second stack back over to the first stack, and started comparing the text on both boxes, trying to work out exactly what the differences might be.

As my eyes were going back and forth between the two boxes, a store staff member — a young, African-American woman — was strolling down the aisle, on her way to somewhere else. I called out, "Could you help me?", and I asked her what the differences were between the two fans.

She took a good look at each box a couple of times. Then she said, "I can't see any difference, other than this one is black and that one is white!" "That's all I saw too", I replied, "and that's no difference at all!" She gave me a big smile. I smiled back at her, saying "Thanks so much for your help!" "Thank you!" she replied, and then walked down the aisle, continuing on her way to wherever.

I walked through the checkout, and out to my car, with chills running up and down my spine, in a state of deep reflection.

It's an amazing story, and a delightful one, with a conversation that was spontaneously occurring on multiple levels and serving multiple purposes. But it's not just a story; it's an actual event that occurred in one brief moment in our universe!

So let's take a step back, and examine together just how extraordinary this brief event really was, and what it reveals to us about the actual nature of the universe. Here are some things we will explore:

• how this synchronicity was not "random", but an intentional and purposeful event.
• who the agency was (or agencies were) behind making the event happen.
• what the purpose of the event was.
• what the event implies about the universe that is enabling such events to happen.
