Adi Da's Spiritual Autobiography has transformed the lives of thousands of secular and religious seekers since it was first published in 1972. The Knee Of Listening tells the miraculous story of His unique Incarnation and Revelation for the sake of Liberating all beings.

The Melrose Ashram: opening night

April 25 is the Day of the Seed-Establishment of the MeLROse Lay Congregationist Order of Adidam Ruchiradam.
The public is invited to the formal opening of Shree HridayamSiddhashram at 8:00pm, in the small hall behind the bookstore at 6913 Melrose Avenue, in Hollywood, California. At 8:15pm, Adi Da Samraj takes His seat for the first time, looks around briefly at everyone, then sits in silent Satsang for twenty to thirty minutes. At approximately 8:45pm, He looks out at those who are gathered and quietly asks, "Who will cast the first stone?" When no one responds He asks, "Has everyone understood?" Larry Geller replies that he hasn't understood, and asks Adi Da to explain what He means by "understanding". Thus Adi Da Samraj begins His first talk to the public. He later entitles this talk, "Understanding", and it becomes the first talk in His book, The Method of the Siddhas. (Available as CD.) MORE"There is a disturbance, dissatisfaction, some sensation that motivates a man to go to a teacher, read a book about philosophy, believe something, or do yoga. What we ordinarily think of as spirituality or religion is a way to get free of that sensation, that suffering that motivates us. So all paths, yogic methods, forms of seeking, beliefs, religion, grow out of this sensation, this subtle suffering. Ultimately, all these paths are attempting to get free of that sensation. That is the traditional goal. So all men are seeking, whether or not they are very sophisticated about it, using very specific methods, yoga, philosophy, religion, whatever. When that whole process of seeking begins to break down, the man no longer quite has the edge of his search left. He begins to suspect himself. He begins to doubt the whole process of his search. Then he is no longer fascinated with his search, his method, his yoga, his religion, his ordinary teacher. His attention begins to turn to this sensation that motivates his entire search. When a man begins to re-cognize, consciously to know again that subtle motivation, this is what I call 'understanding'. When he begins to see again the subtle forms of his own action, which are his suffering, that recognition is understanding. When this becomes absolute, perfect, when there is utterly, absolutely no dilemma, no form in consciousness interpreting the nature of existence to the individual, when there is no contraction, no fundamental suffering, no thing prior to consciousness, this is what I call 'radical' understanding. It is only enjoyment."

The body-mind or psycho-physical being that is the usual Man is automatically tending to contract upon itself, to be differentiated from all experiential phenomena, to possess and fill its emptiness with the objects of all experience, to protect itself with all knowledge, to separate itself from the mysterious emotional demand of all relations and events. The Salvation or Happiness of Man is in emotional conversion, or the conversion of the heart from the automaticities of self-possession to the conscious Realization of Ecstasy, or self-transcending Love-Communion with the Universal Principle or Being that is Life. Such emotional conversion is awakened through constant study and hearing of the Teaching of Truth and constant seeing or intuiting of the Living Divine Presence in the Company of the God-Realized Man and the Community of devotees of the Living God."
