A Fasting Success Story

I recently completed an eleven-day fast that was so successful in terms of balance, energy, cleansing, and ease that I wanted to share the details. Being a regular faster for 43 years, the nuances here are long considered and hard-won, and perhaps useful to others (personalized though they may be).
Day One
- 1.8 liters of tea (roastaroma/green/chai/oat milk. . . first thing every morning for 15 years ~20 calories)
- 12 oz of cranberry juice (kidney + bladder cleanse) with 1500 mg of Vit C
- Psyllium (ground) seed → bowel cleanse, 2 tablespoons in 6 oz glass of water with a bit of cranberry to counter the awfulness of psyllium
- 12 oz carrot-apple-ginger-curcumin fresh juice
- water and tea throughout the day
Day Two
- 1.8 liters of tea (roastaroma/green/chai/oat milk)
- Psyllium (ground) seed bowel cleanse, 2 tablespoons in 6 oz glass of water
- water and tea throughout the day
Day Three
- 1.8 liters of tea (roastaroma/green/chai/oat milk)
- miso soup made with homemade soup broth (veggies boiled, strained) with tablespoon of nutritional yeast X2 (midday and evening)
- water (few drops of fresh lemon squeeze) and clear tea (green or chamomile) throughout the day
Day Four
- 1.8 liters of tea (roastaroma/green/chai/oat milk)
- miso soup made with clear soup broth, with tablespoon of nutritional yeast
- water and clear tea (green or chamomile) throughout the day
- tablespoon of Kimchi, chewed thoroughly
- coffee enema
Day Five
- water and clear tea (green or chamomile) throughout the day
Day Six
- 1.8 liters of tea (roastaroma/green/chai/oat milk)
- water and clear tea (green or chamomile) throughout the day
Day Seven
- 1.8 liters of tea (roastaroma/green/chai/oat milk)
- miso soup made with clear soup broth with tablespoon of nutritional yeast
- Psyllium (ground) seed bowel cleanse 2 tablespoons in 6 oz glass of water
- water and clear tea (green or chamomile) throughout the day
Day Eight
- 1.8 liters of tea (roastaroma/green/chai/oat milk)
- water and clear tea (green or chamomile) throughout the day
- tablespoon of Kimchi, chewed thoroughly
- water enema
Day Nine
- 1.8 liters of tea (roastaroma/green/chai/oat milk)
- miso soup made with clear soup broth with a tablespoon of nutritional yeast
- water and clear tea (green or chamomile) throughout the day
Day Ten
- 1.8 liters of tea (roastaroma/green/chai/oat milk)
- water and clear tea (green or chamomile) throughout the day
- tablespoon of Kimchi, chewed thoroughly
Day Eleven
- 1.8 liters of tea (roastaroma/green/chai/oat milk)
- water and clear tea (green or chamomile) throughout the day
- 2 tablespoons of Kimchi, chewed thoroughly
- Salad for dinner! (lettuces, alfalfa sprouts, carrots, red onion, etc. + pumpkin and sunflower seeds, nutritional yeast flakes.)
Postscript. You will notice this is not a water fast. Valter Longo, developer of the fasting-mimicking diet (here and here), has proven that a fast with a teeny bit of "food" like this is actually healthier for the gut than a pure water fast.
Aside from the first day, there were other things taken every two or three days: mainly light miso soup with nutritional yeast and a tablespoon of Kimchi. The miso serves the electrolytic balances with considerable force, keeping balance and high functioning going. The yeast keeps the supply of B vitamins (which are water soluable) going (especially thiamine, which co-oxidizes glucose, again keeping energy levels at maximum). The Kimchi is for gut health. The judicious use of psyllium seed completes the alimentary canal cleansing.
Most noteworthy is the lack of a "plan". A longer fast is more art than science, more responsive and creative than calculated. This was what this fast looked like. Another eleven-day fast would look different. . . but the sensitivity and art would remain.
