In this talk from 1978, Adi Da notes that cultism is rooted in the childish need to believe and to depend on a person, group, myth, or symbol — without assuming responsibility for oneself. He then points out that the tendency to create a cult (of whatever kind) is present in everyone, every level of human society and culture. Adi Da criticizes the tendency toward cultism in the world at large and within His community of devotees. He calls His devotees to understand and relinquish all modes of false and childish dependency on Him as a Spiritual Master, and to make only the most serious and mature approach to Him, for the great purpose of Spiritual Awakening and Divine Enlightenment.

You are not the one who wakes, or dreams, or sleeps.
You Are the actionless and formless Mere Witness of the three common states — of waking, dreaming and sleeping — and of all the apparent contents and “experiences” associated with the three common states, of waking, and of dreaming, and of sleeping.
You are not the body, or the doer of action, or the doer of even any of the body’s actions or functions.
You are not the mind, or the thinker, or the doer of even any of the actions or functions of mind or of body-mind.
No matter what arises — whether as or in the state of waking, or of dreaming, or of sleeping — you Are the actionless, and formless, and thought-free Mere Witness of attention itself, and of every apparent “object” of attention, and of any and every state of “experience”, and of the entirety of whatever and all that arises.
Always intensively “consider” these Five Reality-Teachings.
Always intensively observe and notice every moment of your “experience” — whether waking, dreaming, or sleeping — and, thus and thereby, “consider” and test and directly prove these Five Reality-Teachings in the moment-to-moment of your every kind and state of “experience”.
At Adi Da Samrajashram, Adi Da describes how the advances in technology (in photography, video recording, etc.) have made His life and work uniquely available to future generations, in a way that simply was not possible during the time of Jesus and other great Spiritual Masters.
A key responsibility of the Adidam Archives is to do the work of preserving all of the various forms of recordings and documentation that Adi Da is describing. Of particular importance at the current time is the conversion of all temporary (perishable) forms (like audiocassettes; handwritten sheets of paper — Adi Da wrote all His books in this manner; etc.) into more permanent (digital) forms of recording and record. He describes how he moved from an ordinary childhood, to study for the ministry, to despair that his faith and his service had failed to deepen his relationship to God. In a personal crisis, he became a pastoral counselor and then a marriage and family counselor — before finally finding the books of Avatar Adi Da and at last receiving the gift of sighting his Heart-Master at the "Love of the God-Man" celebration in northern California in 1984.
