Introduction

Right participation in the images I make and do requires the transcending of egoity. How do you do that? Feeling-response is the means. . . Unguarded perceptual seeing. . . is the always immediate means of being "always already entered" into the. . . image-art I make and do. . . And that "doorway" of unguarded perceptual feeling-participation is the always immediate "doorway" to Reality Itself.

Avatar Adi Da SamrajYou are formally invited to an intimate weekend of in-depth participation in Beloved Adi Da's Divine Image-Art. We will be viewing many of Bhagavan's Divine Image-Art suites and fabrications, and considering His Instructions and Leelas about the discipline of right participation in His Images. During the retreat, there will also be time for intimate group discussions and confessions of participatory response. The retreat will be led by Ruy Carpenter and others, with special contributions from Ruchiradama Nadikanta.

A description of the retreat

What is participation in Bhagavan Adi Da's Image-Art as Divine Agency? What does it mean, what does it feel like, what does it initiate in terms of response? How is His Art to be understood in relationship to the Way He has Given and the practice we are engaged in each day?

Bhagavan has Revealed that His Image-Art is the non-verbal equivalent of His Teaching-Word, and that there are secrets in His Image-Art that can only be communicated by Him via these means. And He further Instructed us that in-depth participation, via perceptual feeling rather than thinking mind, is the means to enable His Art to perform its intended Transformative process.

In response to Bhagavan's Instructions, we have designed this retreat to be fully immersive — minimizing verbal mind explanations and cultivating the perceptual process in each viewer — with the intent that it can support a personal and collective breakthrough in our recognition of Bhagavan Adi Da via His Divine Image-Art.

The location

This invitation to spend extended time at the Mountain Of Attention Sanctuary, where Adi Da lived and taught and Blessed His devotees for many years, is a rare opportunity to participate in depth with Adi Da in an extraordinarily Holy Place eternally imbued by Him with His Blessing-Transmission.

Recommended reading: We are also asking people to study leading up to the retreat two short essays from Transcendental Realism:

  • "The Secret of How to Know (and Be Known By) My Participatory Image-Art" (on p. 99); and
  • "You Are The Surface-Space of My Image-Art" (on p. 139).

This will allow us to enter into the consideration of these essays together, without spending too much time talking and thinking about them over the course of the retreat. We recommend bringing a journal or diary for recording the process that unfolds for you, as well as any cushions or accessories needed for sitting comfortably during the art screenings.

Testimonials

Here are a few responses from last year's Image-Art retreat:

"I felt infused by Bhagavan and liberated from conventional perception."

"The Art retreat was one of the most profound and potent circumstances of Blessing and Transmission I have felt in many years."

"[The black and white Images] show a culture of people in the asana of surrender and beholding — actionless, thoughtless and free to express the ecstasy of Reality. I felt the inspiration to be a different way and live from that depth."

"In our final discussion circle, I suddenly realized that Beloved Bhagavan had been Healing me during the course of this retreat."
